Citi stopped accepting new applications for the Custom Cash on May 28, so this is now a card for existing holders rather than one to chase. If you have it, the appeal is unchanged: 5% back automatically on your top eligible spending category each billing cycle, drawn from a list that includes dining, groceries, gas, transit, travel, and streaming, with no annual fee. The limit is the cap of $500 in purchases per month, so the 5% tops out around $25 a month before falling to 1%, and everything outside your top category earns 1% as well. That makes it a strong complement to a broader cash back card rather than a primary one, which is about where it lands on our lists at sixth for cash back and ninth for dining and groceries. The 15 month 0% intro APR on purchases and balance transfers only matters if you opened it while the door was still open.
