The Cash+ is one of the more flexible 5% cards on the market: you choose two categories each quarter from a list that includes cell phone providers, home utilities, TV and streaming, department stores, and fast food, earning 5% on up to $2,000 of combined spend, then pick one everyday category (groceries, gas, or restaurants) for 2%. The signup bonus recently improved from $200 to $250 after $1,000 in the first three months, and there's no annual fee plus 15 months of 0% intro APR on purchases and balance transfers. The catch is the upkeep: categories reset every quarter and must be reselected, and if you forget, that spending drops to the 1% base rate. Past the $2,000 quarterly cap and outside your chosen categories you also earn 1%, which makes this a supporting card rather than the one you reach for by default. It charges foreign transaction fees too, so leave it behind on trips abroad.
