Our take
The Sam's Club Mastercard is really a gas card wearing a warehouse club badge: 5% back on the first $6,000 in fuel each year is among the best pump rates anywhere, and 3% on dining is a solid add. At Sam's Club itself the card earns 3% only for Plus members, who also get an extra 2% from the membership itself, while basic Club members earn just 1%. Rewards accrue as Sam's Cash, redeemable at Sam's Club or for cash at member services, with total earnings capped at $5,000 per year. There is no annual fee beyond the required Sam's Club membership, and unlike the store card it is a full Mastercard usable anywhere. Costco loyalists have the Citi equivalent; for Sam's shoppers who drive a lot, this one earns its keep.
