Our take

Chase recently pushed the Boundless signup bonus up to 125,000 points plus a Free Night Award after $3,000 in three months, which is a large opening for a $95 card. The ongoing case rests on the annual Free Night Award worth up to 35,000 points, since one decent redemption can cover the fee on its own, and you also get 15 elite night credits, automatic Silver Elite, and up to $100 a year in airline statement credits ($50 each half after $250 in airline spend). Earning is respectable if unspectacular: 6x at Marriott Bonvoy hotels, 3x on groceries, gas, and dining but only on a combined $6,000 a year before dropping to 2x, 2x on other travel, and 2x on everything else. The real catch is redemption ceilings: the free night caps at 35,000 points, so it works best for mid-tier properties, not the aspirational ones. If you stay with Marriott a few times a year and will actually use the certificate, the math holds; if you won't, the fee outruns the benefits.
