The Bold is the no-annual-fee way into Marriott Bonvoy, earning 3x at Marriott hotels and 2x on groceries, select streaming, internet and cable, phone services and rideshare, with 1x on everything else. It adds automatic Silver Elite status, 5 Elite Night Credits a year, no foreign transaction fees and a respectable set of travel protections, including trip delay, baggage delay and lost luggage coverage. The tradeoff is that the earn rates are modest and Silver Elite does little on its own, so this is a card for occasional Marriott guests rather than serious points collectors. The welcome bonus was also recently cut from 60,000 to 45,000 points after $1,000 in 3 months. Treat it as a low-commitment keeper card, and look at the fee-carrying Marriott cards if you stay often enough to want a free night.
