The reason to carry this card is the United Club All Access membership for the primary cardmember, which United values at over $750 on its own and which comes with four one-time passes a year for employee cardholders. Around that sit first and second checked bags free, Premier Access priority handling, and roughly $940 in annual credits across Renowned Hotels, rideshare, Instacart, Avis and Budget, JSX, and FareLock. The $695 annual fee only makes sense if you actually spend time in United clubs, because the earn structure is unremarkable: 2 miles per dollar is limited to United purchases, 5x applies only to hotels prepaid through the Renowned Hotels program, and everything else earns 1.5. The 100,000-mile signup bonus after $5,000 in three months, plus 2,000 Premier qualifying points and 10,000 more miles for an employee card, softens the first year considerably. Also note that most of those credits need enrollment or fall in specific booking channels, so the paper value is well above what a casual traveler will realistically capture.
