Chase has quietly closed the most popular way to burn through The Edit hotel
credits on the Sapphire Reserve. An updated Chase travel guide dated
August 10, 2026 states that back-to-back stays at the same property within 24 hours of the previous checkout count as a single stay, and that only thefirst stay is eligible for The Edit program benefits. A Reddit user spotted the
language on August 15, and Doctor of Credit reported it the next day.
The Chase Sapphire Reserve and the Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business each
carry up to $500 a year in The Edit credits, issued as two separate $250
credits on prepaid bookings of at least two nights through The Edit by Chase
Travel. Because Chase made both credits usable at any point in the calendar
year, many cardholders had been booking two consecutive two-night stays at the
same hotel to turn a single four-night trip into $500 off. Under the new
wording, the second booking no longer earns the credit or the other Edit perks.
Chase did not email cardholders or send a statement notice, and there are no
confirmed data points yet on whether the rule is being enforced or was added to
stop booking system errors.
What still works
Two stays at different properties remain eligible, as does splitting the
bookings between two people or between the consumer and business versions of
the card. Breaking up a trip so that more than 24 hours passes between checkout
and the next check-in also keeps both stays separate. Cardholders planning a
long stay this fall should rework the reservations before booking.
