Our take
USAA Rewards keeps things simple: 2 points per dollar on dining and gas, 1 point on everything else, no annual fee, and no foreign transaction fee. That last piece is the quiet strength, since plenty of no-fee rewards cards still charge 3% on purchases abroad. A regular APR starting at 13.4% is also on the low end for a rewards card, which helps if a balance occasionally rolls over. What is missing is a reason to choose it over the field: there is no signup bonus, and 2x on two categories is modest next to cards paying 3% or more on dining. It is a reasonable card to keep alongside others, especially for travel overseas, but it is not the one that should carry most of your spending.
